macOSも結構前からプラグインに対応済みです。
プラグインSDKに含まれるxcworkspaceファイルをXcodeで開き、各プロジェクトをビルドしてできるpluginファイル(bundle)を、メニュー「ヘルプ > プラグインについて」内の「インストール」で指定するとプラグインがインストールされて利用できるようになります。
